I WISH to complain about the service of remembrance this Sunday in York.

I along with hundreds of others turned out for the service at 11am to remember our fallen heroes. As we followed the chosen dignitaries to the gates at the service, our path was blocked by the gates being closed on the order of a commanding army officer.

Then to add insult to injury, several large soldiers blocked our vision, once again following orders from another officer or NCO. The Army, Navy and RAF do not own the rights to mourn our fallen heroes. It was a very poor decision to shut out the public.

We were not exactly a baying crowd, far from it, the respect was palpable and I for one was left feeling unwanted and unwelcome.
