I was able to listen to BBC Radio York one morning recently. Jonathan Cowap was hosting a debate and phone-in with the two prospective police commissioners for North Yorkshire.

By the time the programme finished I was left wondering who these two women really are, what their perception of the post is really about.

To be brutally honest, neither of the candidates excelled. They were, in my opinion, like a pair of sixth formers, intolerant of each other’s views and talking over each other.

Are we heading for an appointment of a political commissar, I wonder.

To vote or not to vote is now a major question. Perhaps a vote each would not go amiss; in other words, a spoilt vote.
