Bridge lighting gap
ILLUMINATING York Festival is a great idea and attraction for visitors and residents, but what a shame that our iconic Millennium Bridge, with its stunning coloured lighting, has not been included.
Perhaps if it had been, the lights on it would now be working properly again after the floods, rather than the present situation of them coming on during the day and leaving the bridge in darkness at night (when pedestrians and cyclists need to see and be seen).
Even before the floods, they were not fully functioning, in spite of thousands of pounds being spent to address design and sustainability failings in the original lighting.
The coloured lighting on the arch is an added bonus, but is it too much to expect the council to manage to get the deck lighting back on again for the winter months?
Coun Andy D’Agorne, Green Party Fishergate ward.
