HADYN LEWIS’S excellent lead article “York head teacher leads national call for shake up of education” (The Press, October 29) is spot on.
John Tomsett, head teacher of Huntington School, is pure genius in his evaluation that our education system should be left in the hands of professional teachers not demolished by political dogma.
Our children have been on a perpetual seesaw of educational meddling and are not robots to be programmed like parrots Bringing back the old chalk-and-talk teaching methods with its equally blinkered exam structure is not progress. Education must be allowed to evolve.
Teachers and their opinions should be valued not belittled and it is about time someone stood up to the bully-boy tactics of this Government. So top marks to John Tomsett.
