Honest opinion

I WISH to thank the resident of Westminster Road who wrote to The Press on October 26 in support of the views of myself, AP Cox and others that this road should not be closed to through traffic.

It is a pity more of the residents of that road and the Avenue, who don’t want their road blocked to through traffic, have not also written.

The resident who has written, however, has shown honesty, integrity and fairness – more so than some of their selfish neighbours and I applaud them for that. They should not, however, feel irritated by any comment of selfishness as that clearly does not apply to them.

I do worry, however, that in not publishing their name they feel intimidated by neighbours who do not share the same fairness and integrity and are happy to use every other through road in our city.

Paul W Cooper, Woodley Avenue, York.

I can't believe that any of this is doing house prices in this road any good.

Westminster Rd whimps. If they had to endure the amount of traffic, to and from St Olaves school on a daily basis that the residents of Queen Annes Rd/North Parade, a cul-de-sac, have had forced upon them for years , by St Peters school management, then perhaps they may have cause for complaint. Far from it.

My local road is often used by rat runners trying to travel between two heavily congested radial roads, in the misguided belief that one may be less congested that t'other. All they achieve is redistribution of the congestion. Unfortunately most seem not to understand the legal speed limit
and merely reach the back of the next queue a few seconds sooner.

My local road is often used by rat runners ...

There's no such thing as a rat runner or rat run, and Windmill Rise, Westminster Road, Queen Annes Road/North Parade are all roads repairable at public expense that any licensed motor vehicle can be driven along at any time.

Queen Annes Rd/North Parade are a mess, badly in need of repair/resurfaceing, due to the daily pounding by excessive heavy duty, traffic on a totally unsuitable road surface. Perhaps SILLYBILLIES could arrange to have this essential work carried out, as he/she seems to be an authority on such matters, without the least idea off road suitability, conditions or circumstances

Unlike Westminster Rd, Queen Annes Rd /North Parade are effectively a CUL-DE-SAC of terraced houses.

Queen Annes Rd / North Parade are NOT a THROUGH ROAD. ANY VEHICLE THAT ENTERS QUEEN ANNES ROAD, HAS TO LEAVE FROM QUEEN ANNES ROAD, FULL STOP

Over 1000 mainly heavy duty vehicles a week down/up a Victorian/Edwardian cul-de-sac, is pure ingratiation, total egomania, utterly disgusting.
