MAY I point out to Roger Bruton (Letters, October 30) that Costa Coffee is British and, I believe, owned by Whitbread, which is why you always find them in Premier Inns.
I believe they use Fairtrade coffee. Caffe Nero was started in London, they also use Fairtrade, whereas Starbucks is American.
I fail to see why Costa Coffee should not open in Pocklington.
They serve very good coffee, the staff are extremely helpful and polite and no matter which café you go to the service is the same.
This is more than can be said for the staff in some stores, who would do well to take lessons from Costa Coffee staff.
Mrs J Cartner, Linton-on-Ouse, York.
