Little information

NOT wishing to personally impugn either of the candidates for the Police and Crime Commissioner election in North Yorkshire, I know I’m not alone in querying the breadth of choice (only two candidates) and whether their party political affiliations (one Conservative, the other Labour) are appropriate for a role such as this.

There’s very little information about their background or detailed plans (and should they be making plans before they are in post and understand the issues fully?) on the official choosemypcc.org.uk website. As for seeing either them or their representatives to discuss the issues – nothing at all to report!

My only real choices seem to be vote based on minimal information, personal political view and the quality of the online photograph – or to not vote at all. Yet if I don’t vote, I don’t believe I have a right to comment on their performance, so I have a dilemma. Maybe I’ll just go and look at the pictures again.

Mark Howard, Dringhouses, York.

Ruth Potter was a member of the Police Authority that failed to sack a corrupt and discredited Chief Constable.

Julia Mulligan gets my vote and would do on those grounds alone, and in the absence of any other candidates to consider.

We do not have a credible candidate to be PCC for North Yorkshire unfortunately.Neithe
r of them will be able to fulfill the role adequately, of that I am sure.

If we had a Tory PCC they would be just an extension of the Tory government. They would not challenge cuts or the privatisation agenda.
