Keep coffee local

Keep coffee local ONE OF the pleasures of Pocklington town centre has been the ability to pop into a different café, including Judsons and Burnby Hall Gardens café, every morning or afternoon for coffee, tea or snacks or main meals.

Each one has its own character, friendly atmosphere and is privately owned. The existing cafés already have all the characteristics that senior planner, Lorraine Davison, spuriously claims Costa Coffee would bring to the town centre.

If Costa Coffee (an American franchise) is allowed to open and even one of our existing cafés is forced to close this would be a great loss to the uniqueness of the town centre. If anyone really is desperate for a Costa Coffee the petrol station already sells the stuff. Our councillors should fight this proposal toot and nail.

Roger Bruton, Broadmanor, Pocklington.

Yes, keep this American franchise out of Pocklington.

Don't let facts get in the way of your argument!

Surely the option of fair and open competition should allow this coffee shop to open. Residents of Pocklington should vote with their feet and not go into Costa.

Problem solved

Costa Coffee would be the best thing there. I am amazed they could be bothered, frankly its the first time I have seen the place mentioned for anything other than brawling yobs and under aged sex.

Mr Trellis, I suggest you keep your thoughts to yourself. You obviously don't live here else you would not have made such comments.

I think Pocklington has the best fish & chip shop in the county.

Just to enlighten everyone, Costa Coffee is not an "American franchise"; it is a British success storey! It started in London in the 70's and is now in the hands of another successful British company, Whitbread.
