This is my street too

I HAVE never written to The Press before, but am becoming irritated by the letters about the selfish people of Westminster Road.

Whenever I say that I live in Westminster Road, people assume I am part of the group fighting for closure of our street.

In response to letters by AP Cox and Paul Cooper, I and several of my neighbours agree with what they say.

Westminster Road is a public right of way, and every car driver who pays road tax has the right to drive down any public highway.

Our road does have traffic flowing down, not at excess speed, because we have some of the highest bumps.

The busiest times of day are when the children are being dropped off and picked up from St Peter’s School, which was here long before our houses and these cars are in the street for five minutes.

This same group of people imposed residents’ only parking on all of us, for which there was no need.

I have lived here for more than 40 years and traffic has increased, but this is happening all over the city.

What do these residents expect with a through road? Maybe they should all move and go to live in a cul-de-sac. What would they complain of then? Children playing in the street?

Name supplied, Westminster Road Clifton, York.

I dont know the street that well, but it seems its one of the things that gets me wound up, people who move into new houses built next to existing schools/farms/pubs and /then/ complain about the noise/access/animal smells, they should be taken out and slapped till the penny drops...

you choose to live next to it, get used to it!

people like that are making the world worse not better

If the complainers lived in my village I wonder what they would have to say about people speeding through at 60, 70 and 80mph, in a 30 zone. No speed humps, no police, no cameras. Every area has it`s high and low points.

Respect to the letter writer. It's always good to hear the voice of the sensible, unselfish people.

Queen Annes Rd/North Parade constitute a cul-de-sac, used daily by drivers dropping off pupils at St Olaves school, 1000 vehicles aweek. They cause huge disruption, create noise and generate filth. St Peters management promised that this raffic in the first instance would not be using these very narrow roads to access the school, they blatently lied By comparrison Westminster rd was built to accomodate traffic

The management of St Peters school have blantly told lies for years, regards the traffic down/up Queen Annes rd/North Parade, to/from St Olaves school, a truely disgusting, disruptive, diabolical daily occurence. By comparrison, the residents of Westminster rd have very little/no grounds for any complaint

Queen Annes Road and North Parade are repairable at public expense and drivers of licensed vehicles are entitled to drive on them. In this they are no different to Westminster Road.

No kidding about those speed-bumps - they are seriously high.

I use that road a lot (access to the Glen) and I can't say I've been as much as frowned at. Storm and tea cup?

Queen Annes rd/North Parade, are in constant need of repair due to unnecerssary use by lazy inconsiderate drivers of huge vehicles. Slothful people too idle to walk from St Peters down a path, across a foot bridge, specially laid/built for that very purpose. Thus avoiding contact with the proletariat. The main reason for the closure of a public footpath.

Exactly. It's just the same as the people at Elvington: they buy houses next to an airfield and then complain that the airfield has activities on it that cause noise! Most of those houses there are 1980's builds and so are way newer than the airfield, which got used in WW2.. heaven forbid those houses with their current occupants had existed by the airfield back in war times, because then they would have complained that the warplanes were causing too much noise and they'd have wanted the airfield shut down!

Westminster Road has some of the worst bumps in the city, only really matched by those along Whenby Grove (one of which has an oil trail starting from it every couple of weeks or so, as another car gets caught on it), and they're a pain even for me on my dual suspension bike. I live in a house in huntington with a speed bump outside and if anything, due to the noise of cars slowing for the hump and then accelerating combined with vibrations from those who don't slow or have trailers attached, I'd like to see the hump removed (it doesn't make any difference to those living nearby who exceed the speed limit anyway) - and I bet there's a few down Westminster Road who'd like the humps removed too!

St Peters/St Olaves have been owners of the school for 12 years, prior to that, there was no noticable school run, no daily disruption, filth to the atmosphere, etc Some of the residents have lived in the area for over 30 years Many long term residents have been forced to move because of the grossly daily excessive school attendant traffic and noise, vibration, congestion, filth etc. generated by same.

yes it is very tough for the residents who live on Queen Annes Rd/North Parade, who have to endure the school traffic menace day after day, week after week, year on year. in perpetuity UTTERLY DISGUSTING
