MEMORIES of bygone days have been unearthed by staff at a York school who are busy compiling a book for its 200th anniversary.
The hardback celebrating Manor CE School, which is being professionally produced in York, will contain 100 colour pages and be available this spring.
As The Press reported, the school has asked former staff, students and teachers to help celebrate the bi-centenary by submitting their own old photos and stories.
A trawl through the archives has already uncovered old photos from sports teams and class photos to a look behind the scenes at what life in the classroom used to be like.
The school in Millfield Lane, Nether Poppleton, started life in 1812 in the Merchant Taylors’ Hall in Aldwark, and has moved five times since then.
Deputy head teacher David Crane said: “We’re determined to produce a book which captures as many memories as possible and urge past pupils to send us their anecdotes, with pictures of themselves if possible.”
Email your stories and photos to mymanor@mce.york.sch.uk, or phone Mr Crane on 01904 520069.
Memorabilia can be delivered in an envelope with contact details at the school reception or posted to My Manor, Manor CE School, Millfield Lane, Nether Poppleton, York YO26 6PA. Include a stamped addressed envelope if you want photographs returned.
All submissions must be received by January 31.
