A CEREMONY has been held to lodge a time capsule within a historic York house marking the end of its 250th anniversary celebrations.
Documents and items gathered throughout 2013, including memoirs from staff, poems, letters and details of a costumed party recreating a similar celebration from the 18th century, were placed in the capsule to mark the finale of a year to remember for Fairfax House in Castlegate.
Several staff also donated a lock of their hair and nail clippings for future researchers to investigate for DNA purposes. It is hoped the capsule will remain within the building for 100 years following the “lodgement” ceremony.
During the year, Fairfax House showcased two special exhibitions - Crowning Glory, which displayed an array of crowns, coronets, tiaras and jewellery, and the Jacobite event In The Name of the Rose. The house is open between 10am and 4pm from Tuesday to Saturday and between 12.30pm and 3.30pm on Sundays and Mondays.
