The photos above capture what was once a popular attraction: York Story.
The museum opened in the old St Mary's church in Castlegate in 1975, initially as the St Mary's Heritage Centre then later taking the name York Story.
It sought to tell the story of York and its buildings in one place, and was popular with locals and tourists. But as the council struggled to balance its books in 2000, it was forced to close, prompting dismay at the time from tourism bosses.
These photos show aspects of the museum inside and out, including the distinctive scale model of York, which had initially been created in 1969, to demonstrate the plans for a new ring road for York.
