This collection of photos from The Press archive captures a memorable moment from Selby history: The visit of The Queen in 1969.

An estimated 10,000 people lined the streets of the town, as The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh attended the annual Maundy Thursday service at the Abbey, on April 3.

In previous years, venues for the service had included Westminster Abbey, St Paul's Cathedral and Durham Cathedral, but Selby Abbey was chosen to coincide with its 900th anniversary celebrations.
