A COUPLE of weeks ago The Press ran a feature about plans for a reunion of former Nunthorpe Grammar School pupils to mark 30 years since the school merged with Mill Mount to form Millthorpe. That story prompted reader Geof Dickson - a collector of old photographs - to send in this picture, which shows Nunthorpe staff in an official photo taken in the spring of 1954. We're sure there will be some old Nunthorpians around who will recognise some of the faces.

Mr Dickson was even able to supply names to go with the faces - see caption. One teacher, Mr Peckitt (middle row, sixth from left) was himself a former old boy who went on to become a teacher, Mr Dickson said.

"I believe that Mr Peckitt joined the school as a pupil when the school first opened in 1925, went to university and spent his teaching career back at the school."

Meanwhile, former Mill Mount 'old girl' (if such a term is acceptable) Jenni Geddes has been in touch, to confirm that there will also be a reunion for former Mill Mount pupils. It will take place at what is now All Saints School - which used to be Mill Mount - on Saturday June 20, from 11am-4pm.

"We have access to Mill Mount's old school buildings, now All Saints School, from 11am to 2pm," said Jenni, who was Jenni Beal in her schooldays.

"We have hired Clements Hall in Nunthorpe Road, (behind Scarcroft School), from 1-5pm. so that people can meet and chat, share photos and memories. Drinks will be provided, but we would welcome food contributions eg. cake, sandwiches etc."

The reunion was organised on Facebook (just log on and search for Mill Mount School), and something like 200 people have already said they'll be coming. "They are from all years of study, and have said they intend to come from all parts of the UK and France and Canada," Jenni said. "I think it could get rather crowded, but we expect people to come and go at different times!"

To get you in the mood, Jenni sent us these photos of former Mill Mount pupils. To find out more about the reunion, call her on 01904 702115.
