As we reported recently, 50 years ago in March 1965 - so long before Brideshead - a major Hollywood film was being shot at Castle Howard.

Lady L starred Sophia Loren, Paul Newman and David Niven, and was directed by Peter Ustinov.

Narrated in flashback by Loren as an 80-year-old Lady Louise Lendale, it told the story of Lady L's life and loves.

The firm was an expensive flop. But it was an early example of Hollywood's interest in Yorkshire as a filming location - and Loren (who was 30 at the time of filming, but spent much of the shoot made up to look 80) certainly brought a touch of Hollywood glamour to the region.

Keith Massey, who went on to be an award-winning TV cameraman, was a 20-year-old photographer with the Yorkshire Evening Press back then.

He was sent out by the Evening Press to photograph Loren at Castle Howard - and then, a week later, went back, this time as a film extra playing the part of a press photographer.

He took some extraordinary photos. We ran a few of them in the centre pages of The Press on March 6: but here are three more: two showing Loren at her natural age, and one showing her made up to look 80, in a scene in which she is arriving for Lady L's 80th birthday party.
