Free training sessions for Race For Life entrants

THINKING of taking part in this year’s Cancer Research UK Race For Life?

If so, make sure you don’t miss out on a series free training sessions hosted by City of York Council and Race For Life fitness trainers.

The council says the courses are suitable for people of all levels and abilities, from those who have never participated before to experienced 5K runners. Classes begin today and will be taking place at various locations across the city, at a range of times, including mornings and early evenings.

Dean Sharp, sports participation officer at the council, said: “This is the first year these classes have taken place and we hope that the will help to motivate the women with their race training. Classes will be fun and sociable, where people can grab a coffee and have a chat afterwards.

“If you want to start running as part of a group this is a great opportunity to join one near you.”

Coun Sonja Crisp, cabinet member for Leisure, Culture and Social Inclusion, said the sessions were a good way for women to train together and “reach their goals for a good cause”.

Race for Life will take place on June 27 on Knavesmire. For more information or to book a place on a running programme, contact Dean Sharp, City of York Council at dean.sharp@york.gov.uk or call 01904 553377.
