Relief as blind fund cut is reversed

HEALTH chiefs have been praised for reversing their decision to cut funding for a York group which supports blind people.

York Blind and Partially Sighted Society was faced with losing vital financial support from NHS North Yorkshire and York, but a new funding system for the current year has been agreed after all parties involved, as well as members of the public, thrashed out a solution at a meeting of City of York Council’s health overview and scrutiny committee.

“This is really fantastic news that the society has secured funding for at least the next 12 months, as we were really concerned the organisation would cease to exist when the initial decision was made,” said Coun Tina Funnell, who chairs the committee.
