A team of health professionals in Scarborough is appealing to people who want to improve their lifestyle in the New Year.

Launched in November 2009, the Health Trainers Service is part of a project to help support, motivate and guide people in the resort to make healthier long-term lifestyle choices.

The programme includes advice on physical activity, nutrition, quitting smoking, reducing alcohol intake and promoting positive mental health.

The trainers are based at the Falsgrave Community Resource Centre in Scarborough and are appealing to anyone in the area looking to improve their lifestyle to get in touch.

Penny Kendall, 61, a retired hospice nurse, has been involved with the scheme since last July. She said: “I was unfit and suffering with quite a few niggles – mainly connected to my osteoarthritis.

“I first found out about the Health Trainers at an event at Newby Library. Now my outlook on my life and health has changed for the better. From doing virtually no exercise I now do several activities regularly and really miss it if I can’t do them. I do Pilates, walking and swimming. I can even keep up with my three-year-old granddaughter.”
