A NEW scheme from City of York Council aims to help residents improve the health of their hearts this year.
The Healthy Hearts programme, funded by the British Heart Foundation, will help educate pople who worry about being overweight, having high blood pressure, or are not physically active, about the benefits of adopting a healthier lifestyle.
The course runs for six weeks, with weekly two-hour sessions, including circuit-based exercises and lifestyle tips, with support from local GP surgeries and medical professionals.
Coun Sonja Crisp, cabinet member for leisure, culture and social inclusion at the council, said: “These courses are a fantastic example of how the council can work with residents and partners in health to prevent serious illness, such as heart disease.
“I hope people will find the sessions enjoyable as well as beneficial.”
The programme begins on January 30.
It will be held at locations across the city, including venues in Copmanthorpe, Elvington, Huntington and Rawcliffe.
It is open to adults aged 16 and over, and each session costs £3, or £15 for the full course in advance.
For more information or to book on the programme, phone Katie Ellis on 01904 553377 or email katie.ellis@york.gov.uk
