Adele Carnell, of Filmore & Union, tells us why porridge oats are not just for winter.

IF your first meal of the day means a rushed piece of cold toast and jam wolfed down with a slug of lukewarm coffee, then it could be time for a change.

Kick-start the week with a super clean and simple breakfast that will save you time and help you beat the morning blues and keep you feeling energized.

Soaked oats will give you low GI slow release energy and are great if you are exercising later in the morning and add chia seeds to pack a big punch.

Coveted by the Aztecs for their energy producing powers they are a great way to add nutrition to your breakfast. Chia seeds are a great source of age fighting anti-oxidants, bone strengthening calcium and bodycleansing fibre and there’s no need to grind them just toss them in whole.

If mornings are hectic with the kids this is a perfect healthy to go breakfast that can be eaten by them even in the car on the way to school and they will love choosing their own fruit and toppings.

RECIPE

Combine 40g of oats and one tbsp of chia seeds and any seasonal fruit ( berries are best) with enough almond milk to cover. Stir well and leave to soak in the fridge overnight.

Then in the morning, just add your favourite toppings - we love using agave syrup and nuts for a bowl full of pure goodness.
