A NEW hotel-style care home which promises to make patients feel “more like guests than patients” has opened in Pocklington.
William Wilberforce Care Home in Pocklington was created by Paragon Healthcare Group, which bought land on the Pocklington School Estate, where the Christian campaigner William Wilberforce once resided.
The decor is described as a “luxurious combination of modern, Victorian and traditional influences designed to make the residents feel at ease in the surroundings”. There are antique pieces throughout the home and under-floor heating as well as a cinema, coffee bar and landscaped gardens.
Meg Kennedy, care director at the William Wilberforce, said: “We wanted The William Wilberforce to stand out, not just by its aesthetics, but also by the atmosphere and the care given to the residents.
"Going into care shouldn’t be something that is dreaded and we hope that we can take away the fear and uncertainty so that residents and their families can really enjoy this season of their lives to the full.”
