WHAT does spring mean to you?
New life; new beginnings; showers, sunlight and pale skies washed clean? All these aspects and more were captured by members of The Press Camera Club in our April photography competition.
Press photographer Frank Dwyer, who had the difficult job of judging the entries, was particularly struck by Paul Anthony White’s abstract images, combining blue skies and wisps of cloud seen through raindrops on glass. It was part of a strong portfolio by Paul who also had another photograph shortlisted.
Carolyn Clarke’s detailed study of Homestead Park also caught Frank’s eye, with its careful composition and wealth of texture and colour.
Ultimately, however, Frank chose Ian Jacob’s gorgeous photograph of pink tulips at Nostell Priory as overall winner. “I love the apparent simplicity of it, but also the technical skill - the way the out-of-focus bokeh background draws attention to the flowers and their elegant stems,” he says. “It’s a lovely photo.”
So congratulations to Ian, who wins £50 and a canvas print of his image courtesy of Jessops.
Meanwhile, entries are already coming in for this month’s competition - theme #reflections...
