SPRING is definitely in the air in our selection of photographs from members of The Press Camera Club this week.

From Chris Robinson’s amorous toads to Andrew Woodcock’s sprightly stoat and Anita Barber’s hungry robins, there’s a distinct sense of renewed life about many of the images.

That’s hardly surprising, since many of the images are entered in this month’s Press Camera Club competition, theme #spring. There’s still time to get your entries in if you think you can do better...

One photograph that took a very long time to get is Paul Bailey’s shot of a Great Spotted Woodpecker. Paul took up photography in 2012. His attempt then to photograph a woodpecker in Hagg Wood near Dunnington, however, resulted only in a ‘blurry image of red, white and black’.

Great Spotted Woodpeckers are very twitchy, he says - but he’s been determined ever since to get a decent photograph. He finally succeeded. “After six weeks of walking into Hagg Wood nearly every day, secreting food in tree bark cracks, building a makeshift hide, wearing a creepy camouflage jacket (and) scaring local dog walkers ... this little beauty arrived,” he writes.”
