CALL off the search for anyone still trying to find the best way to watch La La Land - I have found it.

Just when you thought the multiple-Academy Award winner could not be wrapped up in any more fun, enjoyment and emotion on the big screen, along come the Novello Orchestra on their World tour to dazzle fans of the film once more.

The 60-piece ensemble provide a seamless soundtrack to the musical, with the dazzling performances of the talented musicians often taking the audiences' eyes away from big screen stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone.

They treated the Barbican to extra instrumentals before the film had started and settled everyone back into the swing of things after an intermission.

I suspect many of the audience had seen the film before and were big enough fans willing to fork out the unnecessary ticket prices of between £45 and £70 for the evening.

A handful of young women had come dressed in Mia's famous yellow dress that is seen in the now ubiquitous film poster of her character, Mia, dancing with Gosling's Seb high in the Hollywood hills complete with an atmospheric purple background.

The pair are funny, personable and bring a dose of laughter and sadness to the story as they battle their emotions for each other while chasing dreams of becoming a movie star (Mia) and setting up a jazz club (Seb).

A special mention must go to the night's star performer; the Novello Orchestra's supremely talented pianist, who not only proved to be a fitting accompaniment to the songs, but made the feat of matching Gosling's hands during his piano solos look effortless.

The orchestra played until the very last credit had rolled and by that time those in the room had rose to their feet to clap along with the musicians and the overwhelming stars of a thoroughly enjoyable night.

La La Land in Concert moves on to Edinburgh's Usher Hall on Wednesday, before travelling to Canada, Turkey, Mexico, Italy and Switzerland.
