THE LATEST window in York’s Advent calendar was opened yesterday, when the medieval Barley Hall took its turn.

The festive window display was unveiled at 11am yesterday, the fifth in the series of 24 Advent windows being revealed around the city.

Businesses throughout the city are joining in the unique display, with one trader revealing a Christmas display every day until December 25.

The window displays will all stay in place for the rest of Advent.

Today will see staff at The Press offices on Walmgate open its window, and later the in week the Theatre Royal and other shops and offices will follow suit.

Between Christmas and New Year, once all the windows have been opened, Press readers will be able to vote for their favourite, and the winner will get a £1000 prize to be donated to the charity of their choice.
