Happy New Year! MAXINE GORDON spells out her alphabetical preview of 2015

A
Accessories. The quickest way to update your wardrobe for the new year and new season is with a help from these little fashion friends. Get some statement earrings or a circle bag to signal your arrival into 2015.

B
Bicycle. Following the success of Le Grand Départ, cycling is here to stay now that the Tour of Yorkshire is heading our way in May.

C
Cauliflower. Move over kale, the humble cauli is the new superfood. Low in calories and high in fibre, it is a versatile veggie that can be blitzed to produce a cauliflower "rice" and even transformed into a "dough" for pizza. Time to get creative.

D
Denim. Jeans, jackets, dresses, bags, shoes; denim is in demand for 2015.

E
Election. Steel yourself for the bloody political battle that will be the General Election on May 7. Will the Kippers breakthrough; will Nick Clegg-up face a come-down and can Ed oust Dave from the top spot? We can hardly wait to find out...

F
Fashion City York. All things stylish will take over York from April 10 to 12 as FCY struts its stuff again with a fashion bar, makeovers, live windows and lots more planned.

G
Gongs. We are hoping Brit actor Eddie Redmayne wins an Oscar for his career-making performance as Stephen Hawking in the bio-pic The Theory of Everything.

H
Hair. Wave goodbye to wispy locks, and say hello to bold, blunt cuts for 2015.

I
Ice-cream. York is blessed with some great local ice-cream (LICCS and Yorvale) and now we can look forward to even more when La Cremeria opens a new, bigger parlour on Goodramgate next month.

J
Jo Malone. We are looking forward to the new Wanderlust collection out this month, especially the Lime Basil & Mandarin diffuser (£58).

K
Knitwear. Always a winning style staple for winter into spring.

L
Lips. Pucker up for a beauty MOT with the new lip-balm perfector fromClarins (£18)

M
Mockingjay Part 2. The final piece of The Hunger Games story comes to the big screen – but we have to wait until November to get our last fix of brave heroine Katniss.

N
Newborn. Another royal baby is due in April so prepare for a national outpouring of broodiness.

O
Ora. Popstar Rita Ora will try to fill Kylie's stilettoes as a judge on The Voice when it returns for a new season later this month. We think her sassy style is just what the BBC talent show needs.

P
Primark. York is awaiting the opening of its two Primark stores, one at Monks Cross, the other in Piccadilly, hopefully sometime in 2015.

Q
Quirky. They are not for everyone, but culottes are cutting a dash for spring and look set to solve the great skirt/shorts dilemma.

T
Two tone. Monochrome is having a fashion moment in 2015. Seems like black and white is the new black.

U
Unisex. Men and women sharing clothes and scents is big news again and York designers Harper & Carr are leading the way with their unisex creations from their workshop/boutique on Fossgate.

V
Vaping. The jury is still out on e-cigarettes, but sales are booming and it looks like vaping is here to stay.

W
Wolf Hall. The Beeb's dramatisation of Hilary Mantel's Man Booker prize-winning novel is one of the most eagerly anticipated TV events of the year. Luckily we only have to wait until January 21 to see Damian Lewis lead a sterling cast as a sinister Henry VIII.

X
X-rated. Valentine's Day has been picked as the launch date for Fifty Shades of Grey, the movie. It will be interesting to see if tickets sales are are hot as those of the book (and it's surely worth £8 to see handsome Irish actor Jamie Dornan play the lead role of the enigmatic Christian Grey).

Y
Yule. Can you believe it's only 359 days to Christmas!

Z
Zoella. Vloggers – or video bloggers – are on the rise and none more so than Zoe Sugg aka Zoella, YouTube fashion and beauty blogger, Band Aid 30 contributor and best-selling author whose first book, Girl Online, broke the record for the highest first-week sales since records began. The world (wide web) is surely her oyster for 2015.
