TV wine pundit Olly Smith will be sharing some secrets from the wine cellar at a special event in York.

Olly, who regularly appears as a drinks expert on BBC1's Saturday Kitchen and ITV's This Morning, will be hosting a wine and dine evening at the Hotel Du Vin, York, on Thursday, January 29.

Olly will be celebrating the fun of wine with 'The Classics', one of a series of drinks events run by the hotel chain, which has a premises on The Mount, York.

The hotel, set in a Grade II listed building dating back to 1800s, will set the scene for an intimate and entertaining evening as Olly takes his guests on a journey through classic wines. The Classics will showcase just how and why top-notch winemakers, vineyards, grapes and bottles earn their prestige and status. Olly will share his passion for exploring the frontiers of flavour and explain how and why various flavours interact while guiding guests through a five-course dinner.

Hotel spokeswoman Sarah Pirie said: "Olly’s dinner pulls guests out of their holiday slump and kicks off the year with an exciting and indulgent journey through the world of all things vino."

Tickets for the event cost £95 per person. The evening will begin with an assortment of canapés, followed by the five-course meal with each course carefully paired with wines selected by Olly, as well as coaching on wine in his unique style.
