ARE you still looking for some last-minute presents? Or are you after an alternative to wine with your Christmas dinner?

Yorkshire’s breweries could have the answer. Across the region, from Skipton to Scarborough, brewers have been coming up with special recipes for seasonal beers.

So whether you fancy porter instead of Prosecco or bitter instead of bubbly, you are spoilt for choice.

Adrian Pettitt, who runs the Yorkshire Ales shop and website with his wife Vicky, says bottles and gift sets have been flying off the shelves.

“They tend to be gifts for people who are known to like beer, and when people want to get them something different for Christmas.

“The beers tend to be darker, and there are different levels of spiciness. The “Noel in Christmas” by Hop Studio is like a mulled beer - it’s Christmas in a glass. Others are a bit more subtle in style.”

Yorkshire Ales has a shop in Snaith and also sells at Brass Castle Brewery’s base in Malton, and the firm has also had a stall in York’s Parliament Street throughout this month’s St Nicholas Fayre.

Adrian said the Rudolph’s Ruin by and Blitzen by Black Sheep had proved most popular - but we wanted to put a wider range to the test.

Six Press journalists formed a tasting panel to sample ten of the beers available. Here are their average scores, out of 10, in ascending order.
