IT’S all change at The Press. We have moved into new, purpose-built offices at the start of a new era for a newspaper which has been the main provider of news, sport and information to the people of York and surrounding area for 132 years.

But we haven’t gone far. Just next door, in fact, into a restored part of our old building in Walmgate and new, three-storey office block at the back in Hurst’s Yard.

Our old offices, former press hall and transport depot backing onto the River Foss have been demolished and flats for more than 500 students are rapidly taking shape and will be complete by next summer.

With the closure of our printing press and changes in technology and the economic climate, it was no longer viable or practical to remain in such a large building and so began the process of trying to sell the site.

But the company wanted the business and its workforce to remain in the city centre and, if possible, on the same site.

We are delighted that we have been able to do that and that we could team up with two York companies, S. Harrison Developments and builders William Anelay Ltd to create quality, open plan office space for our staff of 80 and a building that York can be proud of and which fits in perfectly with the surrounding conservation area.

As you will read elsewhere on these pages, The Press has undergone many changes in it 132-year history, but never has the speed of change been so fast as in the last few years.

We are now a multi media company, providing news, information and advertising opportunities across a range of platforms including print, mobile, tablet and social media.

We can provide the news you want, when you want it and how you want it.

Our writers and photographers can report live from the scenes of stories or events, transmitting words, pictures and video instantly via smartphones or ipads

We have invested in a new editorial system, fully integrated with the Internet, which makes remote working far easier.

Our website at thepress.co.uk attracts an average of 39,505 daily unique users and 623,393 a month.*

Our average daily combined print and online audience is almost 60,000 and it continues to grow which is good news for advertisers wishing to reach new customers. No other media organisation comes close and when big stories break, readers come to us first.

We also publish our glossy lifestyle magazine Yorkshire Living and the weekly Yorkshire Gazette and Herald from our York offices as well as a selection of niche publications.

We are now better equipped than ever to look after our customers and readers from great new offices in the heart of the city.

So, pop in and see us, or give us a call.
