The bright stuff for Autumn

Wake up your wardrobe to the latest autumn fashions and step out into the new season with style.
TEMPERATURES are dipping as autumn makes its presence felt. There is plenty to love about autumn – from burnished leaves crunching underfoot to cosy nights in front of the fire.
For fashionistas, however, autumn represents the chance to discover the joys of a new season of clothes and accessories.
We dropped into Browns department store at the start of its autumn fashion event, to get a first glimpse of the latest trends for autumn.
“Colour is the big story this year,” says Robyn Shackleton, of the Davygate department store.
“People tend to wear quite dull, dark clothes as winter approaches, but this season it’s all about adding a pop of colour.”
The easiest way to do this, says Robyn, is to invest in a statement coat. Let the colour do the talking – and think pink.
“Pink and raspberry tones are hot this season,” says Robyn. Browns has the trend covered with a pale pink frock coat from French Connection, a belted coat in deep raspberry from Tom Tailor, and a navy and pink check number from Tommy Hilfiger.
Two-tone is a key look, too – and you can have fun mixing black and white together. Look for prints and dots in monochrome to liven up the look.
Rich shades filter on to the autumn fashion palette too. Burgundy is the perfect colour for autumn and you can combine two trends in one with In Wear’s berry-coloured dress in animal print. Or turn heads in a button-up coat from Great Plains in burned orange.
Country chic is another winning combo for the girl about town. Mix knitwear with denim, leather boots and cosy scarves for a great outdoors look perfect for the weekend.
Browns will be showcasing these trends in a live fashion in the store’s windows on Saturday.
Models will be wearing the latest looks from the store’s fashion floors, including collections from new arrivals including Great Plains, Guess by Marciano, Darling and Kelly & Hepburn as well as boots and shoes from the new Moda In Pele concession.
Other brands taking part will be French Connection, Sandwich and Masai as well as menswear from Ted Baker, James Aubrey and Tommy Hilfiger.
