DIVERS took the plunge to help clear up a pond in York which had become overgrown with lily pads.

Members of York Sub-Aqua Club were called in by New Earswick Angling Club to take the plunge and clear out some of the vegetation which was affecting the fish population.

Andy Armstrong, a member of York Sub-Aqua Club, said: “It went very well and we made some excellent progress.

“We thought it was going to be a task which would take us more than four days but I think we will do it in two. We are going back in August to finish the job.

“It was all about cutting back the water lilies because they had overgrown over a period of five years.”
