PLANS for a giant incinerator in North Yorkshire have moved a step closer to fruition after the Government clearly signalled support for energy from waste plants elsewhere, claims York council leader James Alexander.
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has announced it is backing a plant at Kings Lynn by supplying waste infrastructure credits worth £91 million towards the costs.
The scheme, like the one proposed at Allerton, near Knaresborough, has been fiercely opposed by some local residents.
