A HOUSEHOLDER has slammed Hambleton District Council after “misleading” winter bin collection leaflets led to rubbish being strewn around villages in the strong winds.
Crayke resident Andrew Tobin said villages north of York were given the wrong information by the authority, leading householders to put out their blue recycling bins on the wrong day.
In a leaflet informing residents of waste collection dates, householders were told recycling in all villages would begin this week, when in fact for some villages it would not begin until next week.
Due to the extreme weather conditions, Mr Tobin said this led to rubbish littering the villages in Crayke and Sutton-on-the-Forest, which was later collected by council workers.
Mick Jewitt, assistant director of Hambleton District Council, said: “We do acknowledge there is an issue with the bin tags and that they could have been better designed.
“We can appreciate how it could have misled people.
“I will seek to ensure ensure the bin tags next year are better designed to avoid confusion.”
