SCHOOL uniforms have been recycled to make practical household items to sell at a Christmas fair.
Following a change in uniform, The Mount School in York has found an innovative way to make use of the old uniforms.
Taking pieces of the fabrics, students have been able to fashion pencil cases, cushions, draft excluders and knife wraps to sell at the fair.
The fair, which will feature nearly 50 stalls, including a Santa’s grotto, will take place on Friday.
Its ecological twist is part of The Mount’s approach to education and environment.
This was acknowledged when the school, in Dalton Terrace, was awarded the Eco-School Green Flag status earlier this year.
Judie Lodrick, school principal, said: “Faced with the problem of what to do with the old uniforms, the school community have come up with the novel idea to turn the old tartan into practical items that can be put to good use on a daily basis.”
