City of York Council pledge to collect green waste

GREEN waste collections in York which were cancelled because of the public sector strikes are to be carried out this week at no extra cost.

Residents whose service was affected by Wednesday’s industrial action contacted City of York Council with their concerns that they would not have any collections for two months and a fresh plan for tackling the backlog has now been drawn up.

The authority’s collection teams will be picking up garden waste which could not be dealt with last week today, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Coun Dafydd Williams said: “Unfortunately, it simply won’t be possible to collect missed grey bins, but we hope the additional green collections next week will help people deal with the late autumnal garden waste.”

Residents whose grey bins were not collected last Wednesday should leave them out on their next scheduled collection day, and the council will collect any additional waste left next to the bins in black bags.

"At no extra cost"

Why should there be? We pay council tax to fund bin collections.

I think it means the refuge collectors will not be getting any overtime as a reward for going shopping last week.

Fantastic... They organise an alternative collection for green bins but the most important bins, the household rubbish, will have to wait for another two weeks meaning the bins will not have been emptied for four weeks. Is garden waste really more important than food waste, nappies, incontinence pads for the elderly? It's unhealthy to leave the grey bags outside a bin - they are bait to rats and urban foxes... nice. City of York Council needs to get it's act together and it's priorities right.

Why can't they standardise coloured bins throughout the UK? In East Yorks the Green bins are household land fill, Blue - recyclable and Brown-Garden plus a little bin for food waste! We're waiting for the black, white and pink bins to see what we can put in those!

A month to wait for your bins to get emptied of all produce that will attract rats over the garden waste?!!!

I think they should check their priorities.
