Landlords urged to save energy

LANDLORDS and letting agents around East Yorkshire will be surveyed to ensure their properties are energy efficient.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is carrying out the survey under the Energy Performance of Buildings Regulations 2007, which require landlords and letting agents to have a valid energy performance certificate.

These certificates provide information to prospective tenants about the energy efficiency of a property and give an indication of how much it is likely to cost to run. It is hoped the survey will help the council determine the level of compliance with the current regulations amongst local landlords and letting agents.

About 43 per cent of the forms, which were sent out in October, have been returned by landlords, and reminder letters have been sent out to the remainder.
