Recycle your old Yellow Pages

10:44am Friday 5th March 2010

RESIDENTS in York are being urged to take a leaf out of the recycling book when it comes to getting rid of their old copies of the Yellow Pages.

New versions of the phone directory are now being distributed across the city, but the out-of-date versions can be recycled through City of York Council’s kerbside collection scheme or at paper recycling banks.

Sara Goodhead, the council’s waste strategy officer, said: “Most people are already in the habit of regularly recycling old newspapers, bottles and cans, but over the next few weeks we’re asking residents to recycle one extra item – their old Yellow Pages.

“If everybody who receives the new edition recycles their old directory, it will make a real contribution to the recycling effort.”

Other phone books can also be recycled in the same way and turned into new paper. More information is available at york.gov.uk/environment/waste
