Quarries might not seem like the most promising places in which to study nature, but to the the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust they are treasure troves.
Now the York-based trust is working with Tarmac to show just how much wildlife there is in such an apparently industrial setting.
A free quarry tour is being held at Swinden Quarry, Linton, near Skipton, on Thursday March 25, from 10am to 11.30am.
Visitors will be able to see how rock is extracted and processed at one of Yorkshire’s deepest quarries.
The tour will also cover the history of the quarry, wildlife in the area and plans for its restoration once quarrying has ceased.

Swinden Quarry is located off the B6265, south of Grassington.
