energy and Climate Change Minister David Kidney dropped in at York’s St Nicholas Field’s environment centre to announce cash rewards for people who generate green energy.
The new scheme, which will operate from April, will give cash back to those who use technology such as solar panels, and small-scale wind and hydro generators to create power, even if they use it themselves.
Mr Bayley said: “We need to reward homeowners and communities who generate their own green energy on a small scale, as we all need to play a part in cutting our carbon emissions.”
Ivana Jakubkova, the centre manager, said: “It’s great to see feed-in tariffs coming to the UK and I hope that they will improve over time in order to incentivise bigger installations and reward existing ones as well. I can’t wait to see lots more solar panels appearing around York.”
