Church gift day raises £67k

A church in York city centre has raised £67,500 through its annual gift day.

St Michael le Belfrey in Minster Yard, collected the sum in pledges and donations on September 23.

The money will fund a wide range of work, including a youth bus which is used around the north of England as a way to connect with young people, the continuation of the Alpha course and the opening of the 16th-century church building to more than 50,000 visitors a year.

Matthew Porter, Vicar of St Michael’s, said: “It’s a real sign of life in the church and of the generosity of our people and of God that we have been able to raise so much in a time when we know that money is tight for so many people.
