A YOUNG woman from York who is battling cystic fibrosis hopes to raise £10,000 from a charity event in the city this weekend.

Kim Carnazza-Pritchett, 26, of Nether Poppleton, suffers from the life-threatening inherited lung disease which currently has no cure and has an average life expectancy of about 35.

To stay well, Kim has to take 30 to 35 tablets a day, three nebulised medications and regular forms of exercise to keep her lungs clear.

She has organised a fundraising event called The Yorkshire Glitter Ball which will take place on Saturday at York Racecourse from 7pm to 1am and she hopes to raise £10,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust (CFT) through ticket sales.

Kim, who married her husband Danny last year, said she does not let her illness rule her life and over the years has raised thousands of pounds for charity through various events including running the Great North Run three times.

She said: “The support and generosity of the community has been amazing. To make this fundraising event a huge success I am still looking for more raffle and auction prizes to be donated. Please come along to The Yorkshire Glitter Ball it’s going to be a fantastic evening.”

The CFT is a charity that funds all medical research looking into new treatments and trying to find a cure through gene therapy. The research being carried out is world leading and on the brink of a tremendous medical breakthrough, this will enable Kim and others like her to live a normal life span.

Pat Kilpatrick, regional fundraising manager for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust said: “This is a great opportunity to come along and support a fabulous event in York. The funds they raise will also help to fund a vital paediatric nurse at the main care centre for those with Cystic Fibrosis in Yorkshire as well as our gene therapy research and individual grants to help those with Cystic Fibrosis.
