CHILDEN’S TV favourite Richard McCourt – star of Dick And Dom In Da Bungalow – launched a Memory Walk through York by more than 300 people.

The walk in yesterday morning’s sunshine, which started from Knavesmire, was raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Richard, an ambassador for the society, said it was close to his heart as he cared for his mother who had dementia and he understood how hard it was to look after someone with the condition.

“The help we got from Alzheimer’s Society services was invaluable and that’s why it’s important to support Memory Walk.”

The walkers had a choice of distances – one mile or 10km – threading through the historic centre of the city including spectacular gardens and around York Minster.

One of those taking part was Rachel Hefferman, 29, and Lewis Bridges, 30, of York, walking in memory of Rachel’s late grandmother Reica, who suffered from Alzheimer’s for up to 15 years.

“It was terrible – really sad,” said Rachel.
