A HOUSE could be bought to help care for cancer patients and their families thanks to cash raised by the former Lord Mayor of York.

Charities York Against Cancer and York Mind will share the £56,719 raised by Coun David Horton and his fundraising committee during his year in office.

Julie Russell, of York Against Cancer, said: “This money will enable us to help a lot of people in York who have cancer.

“We may be able to buy a property with this money, to send cancer patients to stay in with their families.

“We want to be able to help people do this, as spending time with family is an important part of the process.”
