Louise Moody's roller skating marathon for St Leonard’s Hospice
8:05am Friday 10th August 2012 in Fundraising fun
Louise Moody is doing a marathon with a difference on the August Bank Holiday weekend – more than 26 miles on roller skates around the Goodwood Motor racing circuit to support York’s St Leonard’s Hospice.
Louise, 22, who was a student at York’s Huntington School , skates twice a week with the Manchester Roller Derby club, near where she now works as a carer. With a group of friends she will travel to West Sussex on August 26 to do 11 laps of the circuit, a total of 26.62 miles, in an event called the South Coast Roll.
She is being sponsored to raise money for St Leonard’s in memory of her grandfather, who was cared for by the hospice.
She and her family have helped the Hospice in previous years, and she wants to continue to raise funds for its work of caring for local people like her grandad.
Sue Miller, fundraising manager at the hospice, said: “Even on a relatively flat course like Goodwood’s circuit, it must take a great toll on the knees to skate more than 26 miles. We are full of admiration for Louise.”
