Charity for the homeless expands

A CHARITY which helps homeless young people in York and North Yorkshire is set to lend a helping hand in East Yorkshire as well.

York-based Safe and Sound Homes (SASH) runs a Nightstop project, which finds volunteers who will put up homeless people for a few nights so they have time to sort out their problems.

Now it is planning to assist homeless young people in East Yorkshire by working in partnership with The Hinge Centre in Bridlington to provide a Nightstop and Supported Lodgings scheme.

A spokeswoman said an average of six young people a week were finding themselves homeless in East Yorkshire, so SASH was keen to get this project off the ground as soon as possible. “We’ve already started the search for 35 hosts across the region,” she said.

Anyone in East Yorkshire who might like to help or wanting further information should phone 01904 652043 or email info@safeandsoundhomes.org.uk
