DAVID Jesper the retiring president of York Rotary Club, handed over a cheque for £3,600 to Professor Tony Robards, chairman of Yorkshire Cancer Research.

Mr Jesper then handed over his chain of office to incoming president Darrell Hind, left, as immediate past president Graham Wilford, right, looked on.

The donation was the club’s final contribution from its 90th anniversary York 90 fundraising project.

Mr Jesper said: “In 2011, the club ran a lottery through its York90 website for an all-expenses-paid VIP visit to York, designed to attract people from North America. It raised more than 11,000 dollars, which has been shared equally between the Rotary Polio Eradication project and Yorkshire Cancer Research.”
