Waitrose paves way for staff to volunteer

WAITROSE has launched a partner volunteering scheme, which will see its Yorkshire branches donate 1,750 hours of employees’ time to local charities and good causes this year.

The business launched the scheme following research of its customers, which found that a third of people did not have time to volunteer because they did not have enough time due to work commitments.

Social and family commitments followed closely with 24 per cent of people citing this as a barrier.

In total, more than 63 per cent of people didn’t do any volunteering.

Of those that do volunteer, 31 per cent said meeting new people is the thing they enjoy the most, followed by giving something back to their local community at 25 per cent.

Learning new skills was also said to be important by 25 per cent of respondents.
