Christopher Hansen, of Bootham, in training for his running challenge which aims to raise cash for Dogs for the Disabled, a charity which trains assistance dogs for children and adults with physical disabilities and children with autism
A YORK student is preparing to take part in a remarkable personal challenge to run nearly four marathons in the space of a week for charity.
On May 20, Christoper Hansen will begin his challenge to run 100 miles in seven days to raise money for the charity Dogs for the Disabled – running 13 miles a day for six days and then 22 miles on the final leg.
Mr Hansen, of Bootham, said he chose to raise money for Dogs for the Disabled, which trains assistance dogs for children and adults with physical disabilities and children with autism, after seeing the difference they can make while visiting Crufts.
The University of York masters student said: “It’s kind of daunting to know that I have to cover so many miles, but it’s only a few steps up from what I run anyway; I run 13 miles every few days.
“The most daunting part is that it will be back to back, but I think it should be fine.
“The charity is really pleased I’m doing this challenge. I’m pleased to be able to make a difference.
“Dogs for the Disabled is a really good charity – their name is fairly self-explanatory and they help out so many less fortunate people to do things that we take for granted.”
Mr Hansen, who will be covering a series of routes around York, will be wearing branded running gear for Dogs for the Disabled throughout his challenge.
Friends and family are expected to cheer him home when he runs his final mile, finishing at the University of York on May 26.
