AN ART auction held on the day of the Queen’s visit to York has raised more than £2,000 for a cancer charity.
The auction was staged at the Bar Lane Studios in Micklegate, only hours after the monarch was welcomed into the city at the nearby Micklegate Bar.
Works were donated by well-known local artists, including Sam Strickland, Margaret Clarkson, Paul Talbot-Greaves and Dame Judi Dench’s brother, Peter.
Zoe, who had already raised more than £6,700 for Macmillan Cancer Support over the past four years, said: “The event was a roaring success, raising £2,281.80 for the charity.
“Bar Lane Studios have been a tremendous help and great hosts for the event, but Chris Clubley – auctioneer and estate agent from Pocklington – was the one who truly made the event special... and got people to open their wallets.”
She said local companies offering donations to help with the running costs included CSP Architects for the venue hire, Society Bar and Lounge for the wine and The Pig and Pastry for the canapés.
“A massive thank-you must also go to the local artists who very kindly donated their work to be auctioned. All the money raised will go to local people affected by cancer.”
