A YOUNG woman from York whose mother died of cancer ten years ago has raised a staggering £14,000 for charity.
Chloe Shipley, 21, of Haxby, raised the money for Cancer Research UK in memory of her mum, Diane, who died in 2001.
Chloe organised a concert called The Hope Concert at the Milton Rooms in Malton last May, and also organised a bike ride from London to York and other fundraising events. People also donated to her Just Giving site and a collection was held at Joseph Rowntree School in New Earswick.
Rachel Speight-McGregor, Cancer Research UK fundraising manager for York, said: “Chloe is amazing. To have raised such a large amount is truly spectacular. I think she started out wanting to raise a couple of thousand pounds and the amount just grew and grew.”
Chloe said she would like to thank her friends, family and the local businesses who contributed and made the events such a success.
